HIGH-QUALITY CPR FOR INFANTS AND CHILDREN

High-quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is the foundation of pediatric resuscitation. Effective compressions and ventilations are critical for maintaining oxygen delivery to vital organs.

Key Components of High-Quality CPR:

  • Compression Rate: 100-120 compressions per minute.
  • Compression Depth: At least one-third the anterior-posterior diameter of the chest (about 1.5 inches in infants, 2 inches in children).
  • Full Chest Recoil: Allow complete chest recoil between compressions to maximize cardiac output.
  • Minimizing Interruptions: Interruptions in chest compressions should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
  • Ventilation Rate: Provide 1 breath every 2-3 seconds (20-30 breaths per minute) if no advanced airway is in place.

Mastery of high-quality CPR is essential for improving outcomes in pediatric cardiac arrest.
